Sacred Site Ugyen Lung gi Drak in Bumthang.

On invitation of Gyalpo Sindhu Raja aka Sindha Gyab the king of Chakhar, Guru Rinpoche first arrived at this placed with journey of supernatural power from Serzhang and meditated there for three days before moving to Sindhu Raja’s iron palace. Guru Rinpoche meditated for three days in that cave and hence, the place was came to known as Ugyen Drak. Inside the cave, Guru Rinpoche has left with his body print and latter installed Guru Rinpoche’s Statue.  Guru Rinpoche has also left his Leg print, his Dramaru & Drilbu, throne, wall constructed by Dhakinis, leg print of Tachog Bhalaha, place of Guru Yabyum Sangwai jorsa and so on. Moreover, there is also having holly water of dhakini above the cave and believing that dhakini’s use to offer water from this holly water during Guru’s stay at Ugyen Drak.

While Guru Rinpoche was meditating at this place, Khandro bum (100 thousand Dakinis) made offering from plain area below where the Chhokhor Choeten located (above Hospital) and hence, the place was known as Bumthang. Meaning, BUM refers to khandro bum and THANG refers to plain ground.

Kuenkhyen Yab Sey Sum ཀུན་མཁྱེན་ཡབ་སྲས་གསུམ། - Three father and son of Kuenkhyen Longchen Rabjam.

Kuenkhyen Longchen Rabjam, Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa and First Dodrupchen Jigme Trinle Ozer are considered as Kuenkhyen Yab Sey Sum from the point of view of First Dodrupchen. However, from the point of view of Mipham Rinpoche, MahaPandita Rongzom Choekyi Zangpo, Kuenkhyen Longchen Rabjam and Ju Mipham Rinpoche are considered as Kuenkhyen Yabsey sum.

Kuenkhyen Longchen Rabjam, Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa and First Dodrupchen are father & son in their previous life and three of them were teacher & student for present life. Hence they are considering as Yab Sey Sum. Kuenkhyen Longchenpa was incarnation of Lacham Padmasal (daughter of King Trisong Detsen) and Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa was incarnation of King Trisong Detsen. Moreover First Dodrupchen Jigme Trinle Ozer was incarnation of Lhasey Muru Tsenpo (son of Tresong Detsen). They were father and son in their previous life and they were teacher and student in present life (Kuenkhyen Longchen pa being Teacher of Jigme Lingpa and First Dodrupchen being student of Jigme Lingpa). Hence, they were considered as Yabsey Sum- Three Father and a son.

1. Kuenkhyen Longchen Rabjam (1308-1363).

Kuenkhyen Longchen Rabjam was born on tenth day of second month of the earth monkey year of fifth Rabjung from his father Tenpa Sung and mother Sonam Gyen at Totrong at Tsa valley. He was born with numerous auspicious signs and he is incarnation of Princess Padmasal, daughter of King Trisong Detsen. Guru Rinpoche has entrusted the transmission of Khandro Nyingthig to Princess Padmasal and reborn as Padma Ledreltsal, who rediscover the Khandro Nyingthig teaching as Ter before reborn as Kuenkhyen Longchen Rabjam. Longchenpa started learning on how to read and write from age of five from his father with no difficulties and at the age of seven, he even started to receive empowerments, instruction and training. He was also well trained of astrology and medicine under the guidance of his father Tenpa Sung, a tantric yogi of the Rok clan. At the age of twelve he received teachings from Khenpo Samdrup Rinchen at Samyae monastery given him a name Tsultrim Lodro. At the age of sixteen, he started studying many Tantras such as Lam ’Bras – two tradition of fruit and part, Ch’os –  Six yogas, Kalachakra- wheel of time, gChod- Cutting off, Zhi Byed – three purifications. Then from the master Zhonu Tondrup, he received initiation and instruction on Nyingma Tantras such as Do of Anuyoga, Mahajala Tantra of Mahayoga, and Semde of Atiyoga. Beside receiving teachings and transmissions, he also engage in meditative practice and saw the pure vision of Jetsuen Jamyang- Manjushri, Lhamo Yangchenma- Saravati, Dorji Ngyeljorma- vajravarahi, Jetsuen Dema –Tara and meyowa- Achala which signifies him for various spiritual attainment and hence he was named Longchenpa –Master of infinitive realization.

At the age of 27 he met with Master Rigdzin Kumaradza (1266-1343) the holder of Vima Nyingthig teaching with prophecy of Tara and received instruction on all three categories of Dzogpachenpo such as Semde, Longde and men-gagde. After receiving all the Dzogpachenpo teachings from Rigdzinkumaradza, he practiced mediations where he had a pure vision of Guru Rinpoche.

At the age of 22, he confer empowerment & instruction for first time on Vimanyingthig and lots of auspicious signs appeared. Then one of his follower found text of Khandro Nyingthig which is discovered by his previous incarnation Pema Ledretsal. After that he went to Sho Gyalse a deciple of Pema Ladreltsal to receive transmission of Khandro Nyingthig. He had received all transmission of Khandro Nyingthig, although he is incarnation of discoverer of khandro Nyingthig to show importance of lineage of transmission. Then he gave teching of Khandro Nyingthig and during which the countless auspicious signs were showed and witness by general public. During that time he had vision of Guru Rinpoche and gave him empowerment and transmission of Khandro Nyingthig and named Ogyen Trimed Ozer and Dorje Ziji.

Then he moved his residence to Gangri Thokar and composed countless text and also reached his meditation stage to perfection of awareness – (Rigpa Tshad Phebs) through training of Thod rGal. The situation force him to move to Bhutan and gave numerous teaching to thousands of disciples in Bhutan. Longchenpa has established numbers of monasteries in Bhutan, from which seven Ling or seven important monasteries are Bumthang Tharpaling, Shingkhar Dechenling, Kurtoe Kunzang ling, Shar Kunzangling, Paro/Bumthang Samtenling, Tang ugyenling, khothang Rinchenling and Ngyenlung Draechagling. Moreover he had son named Tulku Trakpa Ozer from his consort Kyipa. Latter he went back to Tibet and gave lots of teachings to the disciples and in 1363 he gave his last teaching on impermanence and inspired them to practice Trekcho and Thogal. Then he has attained per nirvana and his body was preserved for 25 days. During that time countless auspicious signs were appeared. The weathers became warm during coldest season and ice were melted and bloomed roses. Earth trembled for three times and numerous Ringsel (relics) were left, from which five Dungchen (large Ringsel) indicates the attainment of five bodies and five wisdom of Buddhahood.

 2. Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa. (1730-1798)

Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa was the incarnation of King Trisong Detsen and Vimalamitra, born in early morning of eighteenth day of twelve month of Earth bird year of twelfth Rabjung (1730) at Chongye Valley of southern Tibet. He discovered the Longchen Nyingthig teaching as mind ter.

At the age of six he entered into Palri monastery and Tsogyal Tulku Ngawang Lobzang Pema gave him a name Pema Khyentse Ozer. He is born learned, where he has no difficulty in learning. Besides of receiving transmissions and empowerment, he is also became mastered in grammar, logic, astrology, poetry, history and medicine within short period of time. Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa has received teachings, empowerments and transmissions from various masters such as Neten Kunzang Ozer, Terton Rigdzin Thukchok Dorje, Thekchen Lingpa Droten Tharchin and Drubwang Ogyen Palgon.

At the age of 28, he begin his three years strict retreat at Pelri monastery and during his meditative stages, he experienced numerous physical and mental sign of attainments. He also had vision of different masters including Guru Rinpoche, Yeshey Tshogyal, Manjushrimitra and Humkara. Moreover at the age of 31 he had vision of Longchen Rabjam for three times and received every teachings within short duration.

He composed his first major writing Khyentse Melong Ozer gawa - the explanation on Lama Gongdue cycle. In vision Guru Rinpoche gave him name Pama wangchen and Manjushrimitra gave him blessings, then he changed is maroon color dress to uncolored white dress with uncut long hair after realizing symbolic meaning of wisdom.

At the age of Thirty eight, he discovered extraordinary relaxation of Longchen Nyingthig cycle the teaching of Guru Rinpoche as mind ter. In the evening of 25th day of tenth month of fire Ox year (1757), he went to bed with devotion to Guru Rinpoche and full of tears on his face as he was not in Guru Rinpoche’s Presence. Then he kept on meditation stage for so long and experienced he was flying with white lion and finally reached to stupa of Jarung khashor, where wisdom dakini offered him wooden casket and said this is Samantabhadra’s mind treasure and dakini vanished. Then he opened with joy and found five roll of yellow scroll and seven crystal beads – one is Dug nga Rangdrol, another one is Nechang Thukkyi Drombu the guide of Longchen Nyingthig. He swallow all yellow and crystal beads, which experienced all the words of Longchen Nyingthig cycle with meanings were awakened in his mind. Hence he became terton of Longchen Nyingthig cycle of teaching.

At the age of 31 during his 2nd three years retreat at chimphu, the high realization of Dzogpachenpo was awakened in him. It was caused due to three vision of KuenKhyen Longchen Rabjam and received all the empowerment and transmission. Then he composed Kuenkhyen zhallung and some other writings as the true meaning of seven treasures of Longchen Rabjam.

Although Jigme Lingpa has many teachers, the absolute and short line transmission of Nyingma teaching comes from Longchen Rabjam directly in the three pure visions.  Latter in 1765, Jigme Lingpa conferred the empowerments and explanation of Longchen Nyingthig cycle for 15 disciples. He has benefited a lot for Nyingma tradition and his Longchen Nyingthig cycle became famous practice and reach to every corner of the Nyingma world. Once Dodrupchen came to receive teaching from him and he recognize Dodrupchen as trulku of Lhase Murum Tsenpo and named Jigme Trinle Ozer. Then Gomchen Rigdzin and Pema Kunzang reach to receive teaching from him and latter Pema Kunzang became his renowned disciple Jigme Gyalwe Nyuku. At the age of sixty five, he and his consort Gyalyum Drolkar had son called Gyalse Nyenche Ozer.

He had received countless invitations for empowerment and teachings including invitation from Mongolian King Chogyal Ngawang Dargyal, student of Dodrupchen and teacher of Zhabkar Tsoktrul Rangdrol. However he couldn’t accept every invitations that they made due to his old age and health situation. Although Jigme Lingpa knew his son is trulku, he didn’t recognized as trulku but latter Sakya Trichen recognized him as tulku of Chokyi Nyima the fourth Chungsang one of the head of Drikung Kagyu Tradition.

Jigme Lingpa has told in private to some of his close disciples that, he will be dying soon and he will reincarnate but no need to search for his incarnation. The rain of flower falls on his residence and mild earthquake again and again. On the 3rd day of nine month of earth horse year (1798), the sky is clear with blue color and rain falls from blue sky and ask to arrange new offering in alter. Then he sat in sage posture and lots of miracles happened. After a month of Ceremony, his body was placed in small golden stupa at Tsering Jong Hermitage.

His incarnation includes:

Doknentse Yeshe Dorje. (1800-1866)- Body incarnation.

Paltrul Rinpoche (1808-1887) – Speech incarnation.

Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo (1820-1892) – mind incarnation.

Jigme Lingpa was born with full of miracles and auspicious signs but kept all hidden and live with simple life. He has letter AH on his tooth, letter HYA on his thumb, vajra design at his heart, ritual bell at is navel and came lots of ringsel’s from his truth and hair but all kept it hidden and live simple life.

3. Dodrupchen Jigme Trinle Ozer is like sun to his linage. (1745-1821)

First Dodrupchen JigmeTrinle Ozer was born at upper Do valley of Eastern Tibet in wood Ox year of 12th Rabjung (1745). He was (Tsa wai Choe dak) principle doctrine holder of Longchen Nyingthig tradition. He had many visions from childhood itself and second Shechen Rabjam Gyurme Kunzang Namgay performed cutting hair ceremony and named Kunzang Shenphen. He received teachings from numerous teachers including third Dzonchen Rinpoche Ngedon Tenzin Zangpo. He had performed meditations for numerous years under instruction of Dzogchen Rinpoche and also prophesied him that he has master to whom he has special relationship by virtue of his past karma. Then he met with his principle teacher to whom he has karmic relation, Rigdzin Jigme Linpa at Tshering Jong Monastery at Yarlung valley. Then Jigme Lingpa recognize him as future holder of his teaching and also recognized as incarnation of Prince Muru Tsenpo. Then he had received every teachings of Rigzin jigme Lingpa and benefited a lot to the linage. Moreover he had also discovered his own mind terma and preach Longchen Nyingthig cycle.

Dodrupchen (Dodrup Rinpoche) incarnation line & meaning


First Dodrupchen Jigme Trinle Ozer (1745-1821) was born at upper “Do” valley of Eastern Tibet. Hence, people started to call him as Dodrupchen when he became a great disciple of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa. Moreover he has thirteen student whose name start with “Do” such as Do khentse Yeshe Dorje, Dola Jigme Kelzang and so on. Therefore he was titled with Dodrupchen and his incarnation line were called as Dodrupchen incarnation line. Moreover, the present Dodrupchen Thubten Trinle Palzang, who lives at Sikkim Choeten Goenpa is fourth incarnation of Dodrupchen Jigme Trinle Ozer and the incarnation line of Dodrupchen are as follows:

First Dodrupchen
First Dodrupchen Jigme Trinle Ozer (1745-1821)

Second Dodrupchen.
Second Dodrupchen Jigme Phuntsok Jungne (1824-1863)

The Second Dodrupchen Jigme Phuntshok Jungne was born in 1824 from father Puchung Chophen and mother Apangza Tsomo at Thangyak gorge in Do valley. He was recognized as Dodrupchen by Sakya Kongma and in 1834, he went to Dzachukha and received teachings of Ngondro, Rigdzin duepa & Dzogpachenpo from Jigme Gyalwe Nguku. In 1844, Do Khyentse gave him transmissions, teachings and empowerments of Longchen Nyingthig cycle. Moreover, he received teachings from Paltrul Rinpoche and Fourth Dzogchen Rinpoche.  He was born with numerous powers and benefited a lot to the sentient beings. In 1863, many people dried due to smallpox epidemic and he was saddened by this suffering. Hence he took this epidemic on himself and stopped this disease in that town. Therefore he was died due to smallpox and during his death, he said that he has lots of problem due to women and he will take rebirth as a person who will not even look at women’s face (latter reborn as third Dodrupchen who is strict monk).  Furthermore, during his death, he said that Yogi must die like stay dog and died with head downward but Do Khyentse and his son arrived during his death and Do Khyentse kicked his body and said “why you are dyeing like stay dog”, then his body sat as meditation posture as if he is alive and remained in absorption for a week.

 

Third Dodrupchen
Third Dodrupchen Jigme Tenpe Nyima (1865-1926)

Third Dodrupchen Jigme Tenpe Nyima was born on 18th day of second month of Wood Ox year (1865) to father Dudjom Lingpa and mother Sonamtso. He had seven younger brother but all are great trulkus. He was recognized as third Dodrupchen by fourth Dzogchen Rinpoche Minjur Namkhe Dorji and enthroned at Yarlung Pemako in 1810. Latter he went to Dzogchen monastery to study with Khenpo Pema Dorji but he has difficulty in understanding. So he use to cry a lot and also went to sleep with tears. Once he saw Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje in his dream with one volume of text and when he ask about that text, Do Khyentse replied it is for those who have hard to understand the text. So he ask for that text and Do Khyentse gave him. Therefore, his level of understanding boost up and he could learn easily. Then he moved to Dzachukha and received many teachings from Master Paltrul Rinpoche with no difficulty. He received numerous teachings from many masters including Khenpo Pema Dorji, Paltrul Rinpoche, Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, Fourth Dzogchen Rinpoche, Mura Trulku Pema Dechen Zangpo, Zhechen Thutop Nangyal, Ju Mepham Namgyal, Terton Sogyal and so on. More importantly, he received complete Longchen Nyingthig Teachings and Yabzhi from Jamyang Khentse Wangpo, Khenpo Pema Dorji and Fourth Dzogchen Rinpoche.

Many scholars were amazed by his writing of Lekshe Gaton at the age of 21 but latter he wrote second complementary on same subject as he discovered that his writing was influenced by the view of Sarma. Hence his second composition is pure view of Nyingma view. He has provided many transmissions, empowerments, and instructions to many disciples and also wrote numerous complementary which has benefited a lot to Nyingma Tradition. Latter at the age of 62 (1962) he had unusual ill appeared and suddenly passed away with numerous auspicious signs with earth tremors, hot weathers and ray of rainbows. Finally his body was cremated after 49th days and remains were preserved in golden stupa at Dodrupchen Monastry.

 

Fourth Dodrupchen: Rigdzin Tenpe Gyaltsen (1927-1961) and Thupten Thrinle palzang (b. 1927).

Two incarnations of Third Dodrupchen were born namely Rigdzin Tenpe Gyaltsen aka Dudul Pawo Dorje (1927-1961) and Thupten Thrinle palzang (b.1927). Although both Fourth Dodrupchen were born with Nemours power and recognized by many great lamas as two fourth Dodrupchen, Rigdzin Tenpe Gyaltsen also Known as Dudul Pawo Dorje has latter acknowledge himself that he was trulku of Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje and he has also displayed mystical power similar to Do Khyentse. However many prophesies and great lamas has recognized as two Fourth Dodrupchen.


Fourth Dodrupchen
Fourth Dodrupchen Thupten Thrinle Palzang (b.1927)

Fourth Dodrupchen Thupten Thinle Palzang is a great master of Dzogpachenpo and principal Linage holder of Longchen Nyingthig. He was born in 1927 at valley of Gollok from father Drala and mother Kali Kyi. While Rinpoche was in Womb, there were many auspicious signs and dreams to parents were appeared. His mother can see in the darkness while Rinpoche is in womb and also Za use to appear on the roof of the house. Many people heard that Rinpoche use to chant Siddhi mantra from small age and Fifth Dzogchen Rinpoche has gave prophecy to search for trulku of 3rd Dodrupchen and the search team met with Dodrupchen Trulku as per Fifth Dzogchen Rinpoche’s instruction. Rinpoche has passed all the test with no hesitation and finally Dzogchen Rinpoche has also picked his name during Final Test. He had answered every questions while people ask about his past life and shown many miracle powers during his childhood. Both the incarnations were enthrone together and they use to learn together from Konme Khenpo. However after the death of Khenpo, Rinpoche traveled to Dzachukha and received empowerments of Nyingthig Yabzhi and Longchen Nyingthig from Khenpo Kunzang Chotrak aka Khenpo Kunpal. Khenpo Kunpal was disciple of Paltrul Rinpoche and 3rd Dodrupchen and he used to say that my linage is short, powerful, blessed and extraordinary to other linage.

At the age of 14, he has become seriously ill and went to Apang Terton and received lots of Prophecies along with treatment.  Then as per the advice of Apang Terton, Rinpoche went to receive teachings from Yukhok Chatralwa and received many teachings. He has received many teachings from various great teachers such as Jamyang Khentse chokyi Lodro, shechen Kongtrul, Dzogchen Khenpo Gompo etc. and practiced according to their guidance. Moreover Rinpoche has spread longchen Nyingthig tradition in many different places including Bhutan and currently lives at Sikkim Choeten Goenpa.

Incarnations of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa.

According to biography of Paltrul Rinpoche, Rigdzhin Jigme Lingpa has three incarnation of Ku (body), Sung (speech) and Thug (mind). Three incarnations has further breakdown into many incarnations and benefited a lot to the sentient beings.  His three incarnation includes: Jamyang Khyentse wangpo (body incarnation), Paltrul Rinpoche (speech incarnation) and Do Khyentse Yeshi Dorji (mind incarnation).


    1. Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo – body incarnation (ku) of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa (1820 -1892)

Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo is promogator of Nyinma, Kagyu sakya and he was recognized as body incarnation by Nyingmapas. Moreover, he was also recognized as rebirth of Nesar Khyentse & Thartse Champa Namkha Chi-me by Sakyapas. He was regarded as one of the five kings among the hundred major tertons of the Nyingma tradition. Once Dodrupchen prophesied his father that, great trulku will be born form him if he does not marry.  He started to learn astrology, medicine and discipline from his father and Lamen Chotrak Gyatso. One day he got sick and received Vajrakila empowerment from Guru Rinpoche and Yeshi Tshogyel in a pure vision. At the age of 15, he has vision of moving towards Bodghgaya and was entrusted with treasure of Prajnaparamita and annutaratantra teachings by manjushrimitra. At sixteen, he has vision of moving to Zangdogpelri and received the introduction to three Buddha Bodies from Guru Rinpoche with host of dakinis. After receiving many teachings from other teachers, he received transmission of Longchen Nyingthig cycle from Jigme Gyalwe Nguku at the age of nineteen. At age of twenty, he went to Ngor Monastry in central Tibet and discovered many teachings and objects as earth Ter (sa gTer- Earth Treasure) such as Thugje chenpo Semnyi Ngalso, Lama Kuzhi Drupthap, Tsasum Gyutrul Trawa and Tsasum Chidu. At the age of 24, he discovered Chithuen Nyingthig teachings and age of 29 he went to central Tibet and received blessing from Guru Rinpoche in pure vision. Moreover, he also discovered Sangdrup Tsokyi Nyingthig as mind ter (dGongs gTer). At the age of 35, while he is meditating on white Tara, he had pure vision of Tara and discovered Phagme Nyingthig. He received Longchen Nyingthig teachings and transmissions from Jigme Gyalwe Nguku, Jetsun Sonam Chokden, Khenpo Pema Dorji, and fourth Dzogchen Rinpoche.

He received teachings of all the lineages exist in Tibet from 105 lamas including Nyingma, Kadam, Sakya, Drikung, Kamtsang, Drukpa and others.  After his death he has manifested many incarnations and started Khyentse incarnation line. Those incarnations were named as five Khyentse (ku, sung, Thug, Yoenten and thinley).

  a. Ku (Body emanation)- Guru Tsewang (1896-1935) – Dzogchen Manastry (nyingma)

 b. Sung (Speech emanation)- Karma Janyang Khyentse Ozer. First Beru Khyentse Rinpoche (1896-1945)- Palpung Monastry (Kagyu).

c. Thug (Mind emanation)- Dilgong Khyentse Rinpoche, Rabsel Dawa/ Tashi Paljor (1910-1991) Shechen Monastry (Nyingma)

d. Yonten (The qualities emanation) - Ngawang Tutop wangchuk (1900-?) Phuntsho Podrang (Sakya)

e. Thinley (Activity emanation)- Jamyang Khyentse chokyi Lodro. Jamyang Khyentse Choekyi Lodro 1893-1959)- Kathogmanastry (nyingma) and then Dzongsar Monastry (Sakya) - further Dzongsar Khentse Rinpoche (1961), Khyentse Yeshe Rinpoche(1962), Jigme Khyentse Rinpoche(1963).


2. Paltrul Jigme Chokyi Wangpo – speech incarnation (sung) of Rigdzin Jigmelingpa. (1808-1887).

Paltrul Ogyen Jigme chokyi Wangpo is speech incarnation of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa and he was one of the great Nyingma Teacher and writer, who’s writing were even cited by scholars of other schools. He was born in Earth Dragon year of 14th Rabjung (1808) at Karchung Ko-o of Dzachukha valley from father Lhawang and mother Drolma. During his birth, he tried to say Om.. but it wasn’t clear. On fifth day of his birth, he said Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hung clearly and also visible of letter Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hung on his neck and letter Hrih on his tongue. Although he has many teachers like Gyalsey Zhenphen Thae, Fourth Dzogchen Rinpoche and so on, his main root teacher is Jigme Gyalwe Nguku and Do Khyentse. He has studied with Jigme Gyalwe Nguku starting from Ngondro till tsa lung and Dzogpachenpo. He received Ngondro teaching for five times from Jigme Gyalwe Nguku and later he wrote down the word of his teacher on ngondro called Kunzang Lame Zhallung (Word of my perfect Teacher) one of the most famous Buddhist text followed by many scholars. He did meditations for so long with hardship in the thick forest and also performed countless teachings, transmissions and empowerments to the public and made everyone ia following Buddhism. He has benefited a lot to the sentient beings and at the age of 80, on the 18th day of 4th month he sat up naked in the Buddha posture and placed his hand on Knees. That time Khepo Kunpal tried to put cloth from back but Paltrul Rinpoche didn’t react. Gradually his eyes open in the meditative glance mind merge into the primordial purity. His incarnation includes Paltrul Namkha Jigme (1888-1960) of Dzachukha- son of Dudjom Lingpa and Tso Paltrul Kunzang Zhenpen Ozer of Tzo amdo.


3. Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje – Mind incarnation (Thug) of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa.(1800-1866).

Do khyentse Yeshe Dorje was mind incarnation of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa and he was born on fifteenth day of tenth month (1800) from Galok Clan. He was conceived by nonhuman father (Protector Ngyenchen Tanglha). He was born with miraculous sign like started speaking and showing powers. H received teachings and blessings from Buddha and masters in a form of pure visions. Soon after a birth he sat on meditative position and chanted Sanskrit alphabets. After three days, he was vanished from his mother’s lap but reappear after 3 days of vanished. That time he wrote a letter saying that he was taken by red women to pure land and many lamas and dakinis have purified him with pure water. One day he saw Zangdog pelri at sky where dakinis are offering Tsog to Guru Rinpoche. He fully devote to Guru Rinpoche and filled his eye with tears. That time mother saw him and called him. Then he was awake from his experience and fall down to ground. From that moment, he was became little bit like normal baby. Once he saw Nyang Nyima Ozer who said him to search Lama Sonam Choden (Sangay Lingpa’s Incarnation). Then he forced his parents to take him to Lama Sonam Choden, otherwise he will die soon but no one knows who is Lama Sonam Choden. Once Dodrupchen visited nearby place and father of Dokhyentse shared about his son and ask him whether he knows Sonam Choden or not. That time Dodrupchen look at sky, fold his hand at heart and said I know him verywell and I will visit to your child once. Latter, when Dodrupchen visit their place, he ask “do you know me?” to Do khyentse. He replied “yes, you are Sonam Choden, I know you”. Then Dodrupchen took baby and said you are right. Dodrupchen gave blessings to child and said to parents that Sonam Choeden is my name.

He had receive numerous teachings, transmissions, and empowerments from many masters including Dodrupchen, Third Zhechen Rabjam, first Kathog Situ and so on. Although Dodrupchen knew that he is Jigme Lingpas rebirth, he kept secret for the proper approval from Central Tibet and Jigme Lingpa’s family. Latter head of Drikung (Jigme Linpa’s son) and many scholars reach there for recognition of Truelku and Dokhyentse easily passed all the test that they perform and took him with them. Latter he came back anf receive teachings from many masters like Gyalwe Nguku, Jigme Ngotsar, Fourth Dzogchen Rinpoche and so on. Most importantly, he received every teachings including Yeshe Lama from Dodrupchen and Dodrupchen became root teacher of Do khyentse. Do khyentse Yeshe Dorje had discovered many objects as ter (treasure) and left lots of body imprints on rocks and also had countless pure visions. After benefiting a lot to Buddhism and sentient being, he dissolved his physical tulku into ultimate nature on 20th day of second month. Various sounds were heard, earthquake were experienced, rainbow light were seen and many auspicious signs were observed during his death. During cremation, lots of ringsels were found and one egg size ringsel with five color were also found. His incarnation breaks down into three:

a.  Khyetse Trulku Dzamling Wangyal (1868-1907).

b. First alak Zenkar Rinpoche, Pema Ngodrup Rolwe Dorje (1881-1942) - Latter rebirth as Alak Zenkar Rinpoche.

c.  Doring Tulku, Doring Thukse Doring Choktrul Rinpoche (1902-1952).

Four Jigme to the linage of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa.

Jigme Lingpa has four renowned disciple that benefited a lot to his linage called Jigme Zhi –the four Jigmes namely Jigme Trinle Ozer (1745-1821), Jigme Gyalwe Nyuku (1765-1843), Jigme Kundrol Namgyal (1750-1825) and Jigme Ngotsar. (1730-d.?).


1. Dodrupchen Jigme Trinle Ozer is like sun to his linage. (1745-1821)

First Dodrupchen JigmeTrinle Ozer was born at upper Do valley of Eastern Tibet in wood Ox year of 12th Rabjung (1745). He was (Tsa wai Choe dak) principle doctrine holder of Longchen Nyingthig tradition. He had many visions from childhood itself and second Shechen Rabjam Gyurme Kunzang Namgay performed cutting hair ceremony and named Kunzang Shenphen. He received teachings from numerous teachers including third Dzonchen Rinpoche Ngedon Tenzin Zangpo. He had performed meditations for numerous years under instruction of Dzogchen Rinpoche and also prophesied him that he has master to whom he has special relationship by virtue of his past karma. Then he met with his principle teacher to whom he has karmic relation, Rigdzin Jigme Linpa at Tshering Jong Monastery at Yarlung valley. Then Jigme Lingpa recognize him as future holder of his teaching and also recognized as incarnation of Prince Muru Tsenpo. Then he had received every teachings of Rigzin jigme Lingpa and benefited a lot to the linage. Moreover he had also discovered his own mind terma and preach Longchen Nyingthig cycle. The detailed biography of Dodrupchen and meaning of Dodrupchen will be explain in upcoming posts.

 2. Jigme Gyalwe Nyuku is like moon to his linage. (1765-1843)

He is great meditator and one of the two great masters responsible for spread of Longchen Nyingrhig. He was born in Wood bird Year of the thirteenth Rabjung (1765) at Dzachukha valley. At the age of 15, he received instructions on Dzogpachenpo and Tsa sum Sangwa Nyingthig from Getse Lama Rigdzin. His family force him to marry but he run away to central Tibet and met with 1st Dodrupchen Jigme trinle Ozer at samyae and advise him to meet Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa. Then he had met with Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa with full joy at Tshering Jong and received instructions, empowerments and transmission on Dzogpachenpo. Then he went to mountain of Tsari to meditate as per Jigme Lingpas instruction and after meditating for many years at tsari, he came back to Tshering Jong and spent few year with his teacher. Then he went back to Dzachukha and did many years of retreat at Dzogchen monastery and at Dzachukha. Details of biography will be explain in upcoming posts.

3. Jigme Kundrol Namgyal is like sky to his linage (1750-1825).

 Yongla Jigme Kundrol Namgyal was born in Wang Dhaklungkhar, Bhutan. He was first Yongla Lama and before becoming disciple of Jigme Lingpa, he served as Garpa at Trongsa Dzong. During his service, he was appointed as meat store and have to slaughter countless animals. After five years, he put resignation from such service but he was extended for another five years. He was greatly regret for his service and then he travelled to Samyae Chimphu. After travelling day and night, he reached to Samyae Chimphu and met with Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa. During that time Patseling Rinpoche Drubthob Namgay Lhundrup is also there receiving teachings and they showed their love and live together for being from same country.

Finally he had received all empowerments, teachings and instructions of Longchen Nyingthig cycle. The Jigme Lingpa sent him to south (Bhutan) called Yongla Goenpa in present but he mistook Bumthang Tang Thowa drak as Yongla Goenpa and meditated there for three years. Then he move to Ura Wathang and he also went to Drubthop Namgay Lhundrup from whom he received many teachings, realizing that this is not a temple that Jigme Lingpa Prophesied.

Then Drubthob Namgay Lhundrup sent him to Dungsam Kidpi jong to conduct Dhutsi Mendrub Ceremony as Drubthob himself is not been able to embark on such journey due to old age.  Drubthob named him Yongla Lama and sent there, then he established Dhungsam Yongla Tenge Riwo Pelbarling monastery as master prophesied. He has stated to give teaching of Longchen Nyingthig and benefited a lot to the people to that area.

 5. Jigme Ngotsar Gyatso (b.1730-d.?)

Jigme Ngotsar is also known as Getse Lama Sonam Tendzin was a direct student of Jigme Lingpa as well as Third Dzogchen Rinpoche. He is teacher of Gyalse Shenphen Taye and Patrul Rinpoche. He was born in 1730 but his death year and details of his biography are limited to the literature.
